UN says Cocaine and Opium productions are down...Marijuana Potency and Usage, Still High.

Opium and cocaine production

Opium cultivation in Afghanistan, where 93% of the world's opium is grown, declined 19% in 2008, according to the UN world drug report. In Colombia, which produces half of the world's cocaine, cultivation of coca fell 18% while production declined 28% compared with 2007. Global coca production, at 845 tonnes, was said to be at a five-year low, despite some increases in cultivation in Peru and Bolivia.
Stronger cannabis

Cannabis remains the most widely cultivated and used drug around the world, although estimates are less precise. Data also show that it is more harmful than commonly believed, said the report.

The average THC content (the harmful psychotropic component) of hydroponic marijuana in North America almost doubled in the past decade. "This has major health implications as evidenced by a significant rise in the number of people seeking treatment," said the report.

The world's biggest markets for cannabis were North America, Oceania, and western Europe. For cocaine, North America and some parts of western Europe remain the main markets, with the UK having the highest number of users and Spain the highest number per capita and the largest number of seizures. The report accepted that data for developing countries was sketchy.

Roughly 167 million users tried cannabis at least once in 2007. Among the findings of the report was a decline in cannabis use among young people in Europe. This was seen by the report's lead author, Dr Sandeep Chawla, as a reaction to concerns about the potential side-effects of the much stronger strains of the drug, particularly skunk.

CRUNKCZAR

Reading about a dancecraze in Poland, Crunkczar, I am shocked, amazed, intrigued, losing my mind. Kids are taking crazy drugs and bugging out, and at times, dying in a dance frenzy. First it's a dose of carfentanil (the t-rex tranquilizer in Jurassic Park 3) so they're limbs go all numby and gummy. Next up is a hit of Dexedrine, a powerful amphetamine known to possibly cause the user to develop ADHD, to really rev the raver up into an arm flinging spin.

Excerpt courtesy of the Guardian.
The staunchly underground scene, known as Crunkczar, was founded by Ryszard "Crunk King" Kuklinski, the grandson of a renowned cold war spy for the CIA of the same name. Facing danger of discovery, his grandfather, who was instrumental in preventing a nuclear holocaust, was extracted from Poland with his family in 1984 and settled in Florida, where Ryszard Jr would be born. The "Crunk King", as he would come to label himself, moved to Warsaw, Poland with his parents when they believed it was safe, after the fall of Communism in the mid 90s. It is there he resides today – in a squatted bunker with his crew, Boom Boom Clik.

Squat living is an integral part of Crunkczar. Rival crews, such as Bass Boyz, also live together in illegally occupied spaces. There is intense rivalry between different crews, with extreme measures taken to gain control over prime squatting spots. Squat shoot-outs between opposing crunkczar crews are commonplace. In one gang fight, Ryszard was shot 10 times – a fact he is immensely proud of because this is more than his hero 50 Cent was sprayed with.

As crazy as that all is, the beats are even crazier. They seem to blend any and every style of house and techno they can think of and lay it over snail paced vocals of any US hip-hop single. You have Akon and Lil' Wayne sounding more like Big Moe and Eastern European kids are just fuckin' loving it.

I met the famous and fabulous DJ Stretch Armstrong today

As tweeted at 8:21a.m. on June 4th,legendary DJ Stretch Armstrong is back in his native New York. Here in full effect on East Village Radio, Stretch is spinning an amazing set packed with classic hip hop hits and house gold in perfect form.
Making his debut on Columbia University’s radio station, 89.9, in 1990, he transformed the public output of under the radar hip-hop. He worked alongside comic relief and hype man Bobby Bobbito. His reputation gained him a spot on Hot 97, giving him the opportunity to feature and interview current hip hop icons before their names had ever been heard; the likes of Redman, Nas, Wu-Tang Clan, Busta Rhymes, the list goes on. Way ahead of the game, he has been mixing tracks in the style of the now popular “mash-ups” since the ‘90s, combining rap, alternative, house, or whatever vinyl he could get his hands on.
Today he works as a DJ traveling the world, gracing the stages of many a booth and countless parties. He also runs elctro/house label, Plant Music. His artists include DJs Tittsworth, Clubfeet, and the Glass, to name a few.
We are previewing the show here in the office and every one of us is getting down to this man’s flawless mix. The show is available to stream on the website and we invite you to listen. Fortunately for us all, a regular weekly two hour slot is in sights for the notorious Stretch, date to be disclosed, and he invites you to suggest a title for it. You can email him at stretcha@gmail.com or get him on his twitter, Stretch Army.
